ADDICTIONS

Description

Addiction (also known as substance use disorder) is a chronic disease that affects the brain, consists of the compulsive search and use of harmful substances (alcohol, tobacco / nicotine, illicit drugs and even some medications prescribed) despite its harmful consequences for the individual. This compulsive use is characterized by the presence of great motivation to obtain and consume the substance, which is associated with a loss in the ability to exercise self-control, preventing the individual from stopping or limiting consumption.

This line of research studies the behavior of this phenomenon in the country, with emphasis on adolescents and young people.
